I AM Declaring God's Word & Receiving God's Promises [Day 8]

Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church
Houston, TX

I AM content in knowing God's promises are for me. Even in the waiting. I know He is working on my behalf in those moments when my faith feels small, it is God who gives me signs of His favor to confirm what He's promised and to encourage my belief. He is the lifter of my head. This is my declaration of who I am.

It's Under Your Feet

Lakewood Church
Joel Osteen

• How you see your difficulties determines how you react to it.

• The first place that I lose the battle is in my mind.

1 Corinthians 15:25 For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet.

Psalm 59:10 In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me.He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies.

Nehemiah 8:10 And Nehemiah continued, "Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don't be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!"

• Joy is an emotion but it creates something physical.

2 Samuel 22:40 You have armed me with strength for the battle;you have subdued my enemies under my feet.

Ephesians 6:11 Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. [v.11-20]

• I'm armed and dangerous
Psalm 110:1 The LORD said to my Lord,"Sit in the place of honor at my right handuntil I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet."

• When something is a footstool, it serves you and makes your life easier.

Psalm 23:5 You prepare a feast for mein the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil.My cup overflows with blessings.

• The people who tried to push you down will see you when you reach the next level.

• Peace is a position of power.

• God knows how to apply pressure.

Isaiah 54:17 But in that coming dayno weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voiceraised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the LORD;their vindication will come from me.I, the LORD, have spoken! (NLT)

• Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. (KJV)

• Just because a problem forms doesn't mean it has to prosper.

• God will vindicate me.

Ramiro was born with no ears and the doctors gave his parents a grim prognoses. The problem had formed, but they saw it as under their feet!

Forsake Not The Fellowship

Pictured Above: me with Bishop Goodman and his lovely wife.
Today I have arrived at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church to celebrate the homegoing of Bishop Dan E. Goodman. He served here on earth as a student, a scientist, a teacher, a pastor, a father, a friend, and so much more; from the remarks I heard at his wake he served well in each role.

Wakes and funerals always make me a little sad until I remember my Uncle Ray who departed his earthly vessel some time ago. In reference to wakes, Uncle Ray said, "[people] always doing stuff backwards. They want to come and have visitation with someone after he dies. The person been alive all this time and you never want to come see them..." It makes me smile a little. I'm glad to say my husband and I didn't do things bacwards when it came to Bishop Goodman. We had just visited with him less than a week before he passed.

Unfortunately, we can't say that about a list of family and friends far too long to count. At the beginning of this year, during our Family Vision Casting Session, we resolved to visit family and friends regularly. We want to put our friends and family on the schedule. We don't want to do things backwards.

Hebrews  10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Pastor Joel OsteenLakewood Church

I AM full of faith for what God can do today. I accept His goodness in my life. God's favor and blessings are exceedingly, abundantly, above and beyond all I could ask or imagine. He is faithful to meet my needs, and to help me meet the needs of others. I release my faith and receive a new wave of His goodness. This is my declaration of who I am.

Psalm 118:24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.

Rendering All Things Through Christ!

Man do I hate rendering. No feeling surpasses the agony you feel when dropping from the high of THINKING you have completed a project only to hit that render button and watch the estimated time remaining appear: 50 minutes?!?!?

If this failed to upset you to no end how about watching that estimated time climb to unimaginable proportions! If anything, working in media proves that I really can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and at the end of every major product for at least a month I will be the most patient person in the mix!

Office Space

As a self-employed person just starting out, I call the cafes and libraries of Houston my offices. When I'm not on location I return emails, edit video, and design graphics among my neighbors. These neighbors can serve as inspiration or distractions. When the later is true, it helps to have a good office. A place with enough room to disengage without having to cram yourself into a corner goes a long way. Good lighting, a pleasant aroma, sufficient research material, and CLEAN BATHROOMS [with good soap and no touch hand dryers] all ameliorate productivity. I have found quite a few good spots like Looscan Library.

Located at 2510 Willowick near Westheimer Road, Looscan provides an excellent venue to work. The beautiful edifice complete with a bell tower sets the scene for a pleasant experience. Looscan provides ample parking and handicap wide accessible doors. So whether you have a physical disability or full hands you will have no problems entering the building.

Once you enter the library there is a cafe style sitting area where you can have a snack before you dive into work or take a lunch break once you start. The large window makes this an ideal seating area for anyone waiting on a ride.

The library itself provides 3 distinct areas in addition to it's computer lab, which has over 25 computers available for pateons to use. The chidren have a "tree house" area; as your little one explores, he/she will enter a forest complete with carved squirrels and fun stuffed animals. There is a teen reading area with comfy bright red and white pods. Finally, Looscan provides an adult reading room with stylish club chairs; you will think that you sit in the posh study of an old house.

Along the walls in front of each large window is a table near an electrical outlet that has 4 sockets. There is sufficient room for your Mac, your iPad, your iPhone, all of your notes, your research materials, your study/business partner, and ladies your purse!

Needless to say, I had a pleasantly productive day at Looscan. I cleared my to-do list and the time flew by! If you are looking for a surrogate office try out this great locale!

DAY 3

I am not alone. Even in times of hurt or disapointment God is with me. No matter how I feel, He will never leave me wondering, confused or discouraged. As I am honest with Him about my doubts, questions or the things I don't understand, God will not only show up, He will restore my faith. This is my declaration of who I am.

With a Grain of Salt

Drama Ministry meeting was great! We had group praise reports, corporate prayer, a fun mirror improv warm-up, and a good talk about constructive criticism.

First, we God for allowing us to minister throughout the Christmas holidays. Jesse Adams suggested that we begin to learn timeless AND seasonal pieces. Consequently, several members had Christmas pieces locked and loaded. In addition to ministering outside of the Church, we helped Dr. Paul Osteen get the Christmas message across. Additionally one of the actors, Nkonye, achieved a childhood dream and met Mrs. Dodie (our church mom) because Mrs. Dodie wanted to meet her!

After prayer, we moved on to warm-ups. Jesse led us in "Mirror" and Improvisation. Mirror supports collaboration and team work. Each person has a partner and must stand facing one another to simulate what happens when looking in a mirror. The longer the game continues, the more each actor is able to predict and match their partner's movement. We did improvisation in 2 groups. The first group played the part of a work group where the boss dictated the business type but we were all sick; each actor chose his/her ailment. We ended up working in a cuban cigar sweatshop. The second group was a on a panel at a conference who all had to go to leave for some reason and had to convince the doctor that they needed to leave.

Next, we moved on to the main lesson, Constructive Critism: How to Take it and How to Give it. Jesse chose two unsuspecting thesbians to leave the room and work on a monologue. Unbeknownst to them, we were instructed to not say anything during the first attempt and to "over-criticize" during the second attempt. Jesse highligted several points afterward:

1. Let the director (and everyone else) do their job; you do your job.

2. Give 3 compliments before your critique.

3. Find the truth in the criticism and DON'T say the first thing that comes to mind.

4. Remember that the director sees the picture so look to that person for guidance.

Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Go off Script and Be Yourself!

The first time that I dawned a stage came only in an attempt to help the youth ministry launch the drama team. Bernell Peltier stood in front of hundreds of teenagers and announced she needed actors; it didn't take long to realize that public speaking is in fact the number 1 fear of most people. I thought a drama team sounded like an excellent addition to the youth ministry so I slipped my hand up to get the ball rolling. So, from day one I stepped into the spotlight to glorify God. Years later, I'm still doing it.

Today I'm sitting in a brightly decorated room waiting for drama ministry meeting to commence. I serve on the Drama Team (Lakewood Players www.facebook.com/lakewoodplayers ) at Lakewood Church in Houston, TX. After all my years of theater I still learn valuable life lessons that improve me as an actor and as a person. Two of those lessons are: 1) Don't be afraid to go off script and, 2) Be yourself.
As an actress, I portray life; in life, there's no script. The funny thing is that initially what I liked about theater was the script; all I had to do was memorize my lines. But acting is about bringing those lines to life and sometimes you have to go a little off script to bring the character to life. Some of the best actors such as Denzel Washington and Robert Deniro used improv to tailor characters who have become icons.

One of our leaders, Jesse Adams, says "they picked you for the role because they liked you, not because they wanted you to be someone else". Acting isn't about pretending it's about playing a role and isn't that what we do everyday. Your job, your home life, your social life, and the like are all roles you play. In each of those roles, you are a different facet of you.

Well the team is rolling in so I'll bring this blog to a close. Remember, it's ok to go off script and be yourself!

Whose Number is That?

This is one of the most embarrassing things that can happen to you. You find a telephone number written on a piece of paper and you have no idea who it belongs to. It could have been that old friend you ran into and jotted down his or her number. It could have been the number of a house you were interested in, or it could be your boss's telephone number. You have no idea. So, most people might think, 'well just call it and find out who it is.' Think about that though. "Hello, can you tell me who I'm calling?" What if it is your boss, or an old boyfriend or girlfriend? How embarrassing would that be? You don't want to call the number back, but you really want to know who the number belongs to.

There is something else you can do to find out who the number belongs to. Until recently, you were unable to search a cell phone number and find a name and address for the owner. However, that service is now available to the public online on several different websites. The only thing you have to do is log in, type in the number and wait a few seconds. You will be given the most relevant search results on that number from the database. You can be provided with a name, an address and more. The great thing about this is that you don't have to call the number and find out who you're speaking to – and they will never even know you searched for their name from their phone number.

Another thing that sites like this are helpful for is if you find an unexplained number on a phone bill, or on your cell phone. Don't want to call and find out who it is? That's understandable. We all have people that we just don't want to speak to, or it could be someone you'd rather not talk to. Telemarketers are now able to call cell phone numbers to solicit. So, simply go online and type in that number. Find out who has been calling your home or your cell phone easily. Then you have the choice of calling them back or not.

Missed calls? If you were out and missed a call, this is very useful. If you have no idea who it was, you can utilize these websites to find that out as well. A lot of times if someone calls you from a cellular phone, your caller ID will display the number but not the name. When you have no idea who the number belongs to, but you don't want to call it back, this can drive you up the wall. These sites are great for that. It is a very easy thing to use, which can save you a lot of headaches and stress wondering who in the world was calling you. While it may not seem like much, it's a great way to save time and energy to find out who a number belongs to.

The Sweet Life

Week one of 2012 turned out pretty good. I finally received the gifts I won in the M.A.D.E. Cosmetics get away, I've been keeping up with Sprinkles which means I get at least 1 free cup cake a week, and I've had a chance to spend time with my family. If I had to name this week I'd call it The Sweet Life.

My cousin Samantha moved to Cali with her husband and though they are living a pretty sweet life, we miss them back home. This week I had the chance to have lunch with my two youngest cousins, their kids, and my grandfather. My grandfather was so proud of us and happy that we took time out to take him out to eat. A lot of times people grow up and start to earn their own living and forget their elders whose sweat and handwork is helping us to live the sweet life.

Speaking of sweet, did you know it pays to support local businesses? An elementary friend of mine, Janelle McCalla, started a business, M.A.D.E. Cosmetics. M.A.D.E. (Marvelous All Day Everyday) Cosmetics is a company that aspires to provide quality cosmetic products and services to their customers. I participated in the "12 Days of Giveaways" and "M.A.D.E. Me Thankful" contests; guess what? ….I won! I won a pair of fabulous earrings from the diva house and some loose Mineral Color, which can be used as eye color, cheek color, lip color, eyeliner, and more!

Even sweeter, all you have to do is like the Sprinkles Houston Facebook page and they GIVE you a password which you can whisper to the friendly cashiers and get a free cupcake! I have a feeling that this will be a recurring post in my weekly blog! I also have the sweetest dog.

We adopted Canon last month from the shelter and he has truly brightened our household! He's a cocker spaniel; every dog aficionado tells us that he is not a full-blooded cocker but if he isn't, then they should start breeding them like Canon. Canon is mild-mannered and well-behaved, but he knows how to have fun at the appropriate time! Fortunately for us, he was already house trained; we found that out on accident.

Now if my life couldn't get any sweeter, I'm married to the best man on the planet. He continues to spoil me in ways that I never dreamed or imagined.

Well that's it for this week!
