Everything Serves His Plan

Pastor Joel @ Lakewood Church

It's easy to live frustrated fighting against things that don't go right.

Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.
Psalms 119:91 NLT

Delays, betrayals, closed doors, denials, and the other seemingly negative outcomes are all serving his plan.

The person who walked away and the closed door.

When someone serves you, they are doing you a favor.

You can't reach your destiny without opposition. God won't allow anything unless it serves his plan.

Judas was a pawn in the hand of God. Without Judas' betrayal we wouldn't have salvation. You may not like the disappointment

God is using people like sandpaper to rub off our rough edges.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord , And He delights in his way.
Psalms 37:23 NKJV

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28 NKJV

All things aren't good but they work toward your good.

Sometimes things don't make sense, God doesn't take us A, B, C... he'll take is A, L, M, B...It may seem like you're going backwards even.

Joseph was shown a prophecy of his accomplishments in a dream. He was already his dad's favorite son so the drean made them even more jealous. His brothers threw him in a pit, sold him into slavery where he was falsely accused then convicted of sexual harrassment, he went to prison where he helped the other prisoners who subsequently forgot about him, but he was finally freed and saw his dreams realized.

Judas kiss, people throwing you in the pit, and the like are moving you into your destiny.

Pastor Joel hired a professional to do his taxes. The professional messed up so he ended up hiring a lawyer who became his good friend. That lawyer helped negotiate a contract for the purchase of a television station which was sold for a significant profit and those funds were used to renovate the Compaq Center. It all started with an unfair tax problem.

A man was stranded on an island and after praying to God for help, his hut caught on fire. He was upset then he saw a boat coming toward him it was the coastguard. The man asked how they found him and they said that they saw smoke from his fire.

Sometimes what we think is a disappointment is propelling us forward.

If your hut is on fire, then take a different perspective and know that it's working for your favor...helping you to get into a better

Nick Nilson was a star football player headed toward higher levels in that avenue until he tore his ACL. Sitting on the sidelines he realized his purpose.

Obstacles are there to get us prepared.

Now these are  the nations which the Lord left, that He might test Israel by them, that  is, all who had not known any of the wars in Canaan ( this  was only so that the generations of the children of Israel might be taught to know war, at least those who had not formerly known it),
Judges 3:1‭-‬2 NKJV

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
II Corinthians 12:7‭-‬9 NKJV

My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.
Psalms 119:71 NLT

The Fight for Your Future

We have setbacks that weren't our fault but there's something in you the enemy is trying to hold back. You're the enemy's target because you're destined to take new ground

David was pretty plain on the surface. When Samuel came to annoint one of Jesse's son's as the new king, his dad didn't even bring him in from the shepherd's field. When he went to take his brother's lunch they belittled him. Even though he didn't seem intimidating many storms came between him and his purpose.

A storm came between Jesus and the man with the unclean spirit.

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."  Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:35‭, ‬39 NKJV

Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. And he cried out with a loud voice and said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me." For He said to him, "Come out of the man, unclean spirit!"  Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who  had  been  demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
Mark 5:1‭-‬5‭, ‬7‭-‬8‭, ‬15 NKJV

I will exalt you, Lord , for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me.
Psalms 30:1 NLT

God's purpose is stronger than the enemy's plan.

Pastor John faced many obstacles. A fire, being fired because his message of hope didn't fit in, etc..

For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there  are many adversaries.
I Corinthians 16:9 NKJV

Moses
When God is fighting your battles things that don't make sense willl happen.

The story of Moses starts in Exodus 2:1-10. By the end of Exodus 1, the pharaoh of Egypt (perhaps Ramses II) had decreed that all the Hebrew boy babies were to be drowned at birth. But when Yocheved, Moses' mother, give birth she decides to hide her son. After a few months, the baby is too big for her to hide safely, so she decides to place him in a caulked wicker basket in a strategic spot in the reeds that grew along the sides of the Nile River (often referred to as bulrushes), with the hope that he will be found and adopted.

To ensure the baby's safety, Moses's sister Miriam watches from a hiding place nearby.

The baby's crying alerts one of the pharaoh's daughters who takes the baby. Moses' sister Miriam watches in hiding but comes out when it is clear the princess is planning to keep the child. She asks the princess if she would like a Hebrew midwife. The princess agrees and so Miriam arranges to have the real mother get paid to nurse her own child who now lives among the Egyptian royalty.

Nicky Cruz

Cruz was born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico where he was raised by his parents.[1] His parents practiced brujeria and were followers of spiritism("espiritismo"). They mentally abused him; his own mother would call him "Son of Satan". The neighborhood in which he lived was one of the worst in Puerto Rico and Cruz was always getting into trouble. According to his book Run Baby Run, his parents sent him to live with his brother in New York City when he was 15, and Cruz soon ran away and started living on the streets of the city. He became a member of the Mau Maus street gang, and about six months later Cruz was selected Warlord of the gang. He quickly rose to become their president.[2][3]

Shortly after Cruz became the gang leader, David Wilkerson was preaching in the neighborhood when Cruz encountered him. The preacher told Cruz that "Jesus loved him and would never stop loving him". Cruz responded by slapping Wilkerson and threatening to kill him. Wilkerson attempted again later to convert Cruz, and received the same response.[2][3]

Later, Wilkerson organised an evangelistic meeting in the neighborhood with the intent of converting the Mau Maus. When Cruz heard about it, he headed with some of the members of his gang for the boxing arena where the meeting was being held, on a bus sent specially by Wilkerson. According to Cruz, when he arrived at the arena, he "felt guilty about the things that he had done" and began to pray. After preaching, Wilkerson asked the Mau Maus to take up a collection. Cruz volunteered and led a group of the gang through the crowd, insisting on people giving money. Going backstage, he saw an exit, but convinced the group to give the money to Wilkerson on stage. Later, Wilkerson gave an altar call, and a large number of gang members responded. Wilkerson prayed with Cruz, and Cruz asked God to forgive him.[2][3]

Afterward, Cruz and some of the gang members who were converted went to the police and turned in all of their bricks, handguns and knives, shocking the police officers in the station. They stated that if they had seen the group approaching, they probably would have shot them down. Cruz began to study the Bibleand went to Bible college. He became a preacher and returned to his old neighborhood, where he preached and converted more of the Mau Maus to Christianity, including the gang's new leader, Israel Narvaez.[2][3]

Keep moving forward and don't get discouraged.

And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord , which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." And the Lord said to Moses, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Exodus 14:13‭-‬16 NKJV
