Sermon notes "The Juxtaposition of Joy"

The Juxtaposition of Joy

Dec 11, 2016

Dr. Ed Newton

Target:

Joy has the unspeakable ability to withstand the tests of time, trends, and traditions by remaining unmovable when all of life seems unstable.  Therefore, what arrived in a stable proves God is able to calm life's greatest fears by preparing a table for you in every season of life.
• I will be open to change knowing that God has something better for me.

• I will be open to change knowing that God has something better for me.

Luke 2:8-21

The Shepherds and the Angels
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 "Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"[a]
15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

Sermon notes "The Greatest Love Story Ever"

The Greatest Love Story Ever

Dec 4, 2016

Daniel Sinquefield

Luke 2:1-7

The Birth of Jesus Christ
2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,[b] who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.[c]

Footnotes:

Luke 2:2 Or This was the registration before
Luke 2:5 That is, one legally pledged to be married
Luke 2:7 Or guest room
• This is a trip that they wouldn't have shown up for without government intrusion but God was still in control. God is ultimately organizing every nuance of my life.

• The establishment was too busy for Jesus

There are no Words to truly Capture the full Depth and Dimension of God's great love.

"That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God."  Ephesians 3:17-19
You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.
2 Corinthians 8:9 NLT

God's love is Extravagant – He has gone to Extreme measures to Rescue our Broken world!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 KJV

I. God's Love Guides Us.

He takes care of the Details even when the Journey doesn't make Sense.
Emmanuel

II. God's Love Sustains Us.

We can always Trust His Promise even when we don't understand His Plan.

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?  And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.  And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.  And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.  And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.  And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.  And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.  And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah–jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.
Genesis 22:7‭-‬14 KJV

III. God's Love Transforms Us.

Even His Birth was a foreshadowing of His Death.

"The next day, John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world'." John 1:29

• man·ger

synonyms: trough, feeding trough, feeder, crib

• For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
Hebrews 10:4 KJV

• We have a Savior who is walking in our direction.

We have to make Room for God's love by embracing a Relationship with Jesus.

1. Some people Resist Him.

2. Some people Reject Him.

3. Wise people Receive Him.
