The Greatest Gift

John Gray @ Lakewood Church

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will  be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"
Luke 2:8‭-‬14 NKJV

• A prophecy that had been whispered in the wind arrived under interesting circumstances and cultural significance.

• Jesus came from the line of David, a shepherd boy.

You were only allowed to shepherd sheep in the wilderness unless they were being groomed for temple sacrifice. Those shepherds grooming their sheep in such a way were allowed in the city limits.

Levites :

Temple sacrifices were wrapped in swaddling cloth.

Swaddling clothes, were bands of cloth, probably cotton, not really "clothes," as in a garment. The custom of the East was to wrap the new-born in these strips of cloth after washing the body and protecting the baby with the healing properties of powdered salt. This binding prevented the baby from hurting himself by kicking or scratching or rolling over. Mary likely would have seen this done in Nazareth, but, if not there, she surely would have seen it done by the midwives at the birth of John the Baptist.

The Levites, descendants of Jacob's son Levi, were selected to serve G‑d in the Holy Temple. Most served in peripheral roles, playing music, opening and closing the gates, and standing guard. In the case of the portable Tabernacle(which preceded the Holy Temple in Jerusalem), they were responsible for packing up, transporting, and reconstructing the Tabernacle whenever the Israelites traveled to a new camp. The most sacred tasks, including bringing the sacrifices, were reserved for the kohanim(priests), descendants of Aaron, brother of Moses

• Wrap yourself in gratitude.
Gratitude is an emotion expressing appreciation for what one has. It is a recognition of value independent of monetary worth. Spontaneously generated from within, it is an affirmation of goodness.

• Wrap yourself in generosity.
Generosity (also called largess) is the virtue of being liberal in giving, often as gifts

• Unwrap grace

A Miracle at the Door

"Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
Revelation 3:20 NLT

Faith is the currency of Heaven.

Then the Lord said to me, "You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word."
Jeremiah 1:12 NKJV

The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter. The angel struck him on the side to awaken him and said, "Quick! Get up!" And the chains fell off his wrists. Then the angel told him, "Get dressed and put on your sandals." And he did. "Now put on your coat and follow me," the angel ordered. So Peter left the cell, following the angel. But all the time he thought it was a vision. He didn't realize it was actually happening. They passed the first and second guard posts and came to the iron gate leading to the city, and this opened for them all by itself. So they passed through and started walking down the street, and then the angel suddenly left him. Peter finally came to his senses. "It's really true!" he said. "The Lord has sent his angel and saved me from Herod and from what the Jewish leaders had planned to do to me!" When he realized this, he went to the home of Mary, the mother of John Mark, where many were gathered for prayer. He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it. When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone, "Peter is standing at the door!" "You're out of your mind!" they said. When she insisted, they decided, "It must be his angel." Meanwhile, Peter continued knocking. When they finally opened the door and saw him, they were amazed. He motioned for them to quiet down and told them how the Lord had led him out of prison. "Tell James and the other brothers what happened," he said. And then he went to another place. At dawn there was a great commotion among the soldiers about what had happened to Peter. Herod Agrippa ordered a thorough search for him. When he couldn't be found, Herod interrogated the guards and sentenced them to death. Afterward Herod left Judea to stay in Caesarea for a while.
Acts of the Apostles 12:6‭-‬19 NLT

Rhoda didn't need to see the miracle to believe it.

So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
Romans 10:17 NLT

For we walk by faith, not by sight.
II Corinthians 5:7 NKJV

When we're at our worse God can usher in a miracle.

And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father's household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
Joshua 6:25 NKJV

Safety, a new beginning, and legacy.

So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of  oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. Then Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle on him. And he left the oxen and ran after Elijah, and said, "Please let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you." And he said to him, "Go back again, for what have I done to you?" So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen's equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah, and became his servant.
I Kings 19:19‭-‬21 NKJV

It's Going to Happen Quickly

Pastor  Joel at Lakewood Church

Sometimes things seem to be going slow but certain things have been ordained to happen quickly. Thoughts may tell you otherwise but believe.

The smallest family will become a thousand people, and the tiniest group will become a mighty nation. At the right time, I, the Lord , will make it happen."
Isaiah 60:22 NLT

The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way! The water of the Jordan River turned away.
Psalms 114:3 NLT

God knows how to make things move that look permanent.

🎡🎢On Time God 😁

God's about to do a quick work.

A company filed a lawsuit when the Osteens were acquiring our sanctuary that seemed to put an extended wrench in the plans when the opposition suddenly called and dropped the lawsuit.

Things that seem bigger and stronger are no match for the power of God.

Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.
Jeremiah 1:12 KJV

Now there were four men with leprosy sitting at the entrance of the city gates. "Why should we sit here waiting to die?" they asked each other. "We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway."
2 Kings 7:3‭-‬4 NLT

God is not limited by what I don't have.

For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching. "The king of Israel has hired the Hittites and Egyptians to attack us!" they cried to one another. So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives.
2 Kings 7:6‭-‬7 NLT

While the leppers were walking they didn't know what God was up to.

Man dealt with an unfair supervisor who left and the people above his supervisor put the man in his place when he left.

God knows how to have the right people come looking for you.

Joseph went to bed a prisoner and woke up as the prime minister.

You may be facing a situation that not only looks impossible, but people who went before you were afraid to even try but God is going before you!

"Listen, O Israel! Today you are about to cross the Jordan River to take over the land belonging to nations much greater and more powerful than you. They live in cities with walls that reach to the sky! The people are strong and tall—descendants of the famous Anakite giants. You've heard the saying, 'Who can stand up to the Anakites?' But recognize today that the Lord your God is the one who will cross over ahead of you like a devouring fire to destroy them. He will subdue them so that you will quickly conquer them and drive them out, just as the Lord has promised.
Deuteronomy 9:1‭-‬3 NLT

God is supernatural.

Man had a stroke and was told he'd never raise his hands above his head and MAYBE in 3-5 years he'd regain control of his left side. In 3 months he could walk and raise his hands. Don't believe what people tell you.

One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. "There was a judge in a certain city," he said, "who neither feared God nor cared about people.  A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, 'Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.'  The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, 'I don't fear God or care about people,  but this woman is driving me crazy. I'm going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'" Then the Lord said, "Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.  Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don't you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?  I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?"
Luke 18:1‭-‬8 NLT

Pastor Chase Austin at Champions Community Church

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one,  the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!" But when she saw him,  she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus . He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end." Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I do not know a man?" And the angel answered and said to her, " The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.
Luke 1:26‭-‬35 NKJV

• God's favor is scary sometimes. Mary was called favored but then told her she'd be pregnant out if wedlock from someone other than her fianceΓ© which in those times could be seen as disgraceful.

• God's favor can seem impossible. Mary had never had sex but it was prophesied that she would give birth.

• There are no complicated answers for God's favor because it's always the Holy Spirit.

• You are favored, but you will have to go through things.

Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her.
Luke 1:38 NKJV

• Faith in the site of impossibility.

• Zacharias response was different.

But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. And Zacharias said to the angel, "How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years." But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time."
Luke 1:13‭, ‬18‭-‬18‭, ‬20 NKJV

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "Whatever could this mean?" Others mocking said, "They are full of new wine."
Acts 2:1‭-‬4‭, ‬12‭-‬13 NKJV

• The Holy Spirit brings events that can't be explained and may look crazy to others who don't know Him and have not received.

Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.  And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms. And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us." So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk." And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them—walking, leaping, and praising God.
Acts 3:1‭-‬8 NKJV

• Oftentimes we are looking for a quick fix but God has something more

• Once you receive everyone in service should know that He has moved in your life

• This man was crippled from birth, but God's power manifested something that would take a lifetime to do.

And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
John 14:16 NKJV

• Jesus left the Holy Spirit to abide in us

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV

• You have to move to activate what's already in you.

Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
II Timothy 1:6 NKJV

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Matthew 3:11 NKJV

• Fire consumes everything it touches, it spreads. If nothing changes when you touch it, then maybe you haven't activated the power at work within you.

8 Things That the Power of Praise Does in Your Life

1. Gets focus off of ourselves and back onto the Lord.
• We're prone to selfishness but we have to actively turn our attention back to Him.

Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Psalms 150:2 NKJV

I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psalms 34:1 NKJV

2. Praise brings us to a place of humility.
• We admit that God has all control.

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord  is the great God, And the great King above all gods.
Psalms 95:2‭-‬3 NKJV

I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people.
Psalms 35:18 NKJV

to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, that they might be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of Adonai , that He may be glorified.
Isaiah 61:3 TLV

3. Praise makes the enemy flee.
• Pushes back the darkness.
• Light and darkness cannot coexist
Jehoshaphat: As they began singing and praising, Adonai set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who had come against Judah, and they were defeated. For the Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir to exterminate and annihilate them. When they had exterminated the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another. When Judah came to the lookout in the wilderness and looked for the multitude, behold, only corpses were lying on the ground—no one had escaped. When Jehoshaphat and his people went to take the plunder, they found an abundance of goods, clothing and precious articles, which they pillaged, more than they could carry away. For three days they were taking the plunder because there was so much.
2 Chronicles 20:22‭-‬25 TLV

• Confuses the enemy

4. Praise leaves no room for complaining.
• The power of life and death are in the toung.

5. Praise makes room for God's blessings for our lives.

6. Praise invites his presence.
Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises.
Psalms 22:3 NIV

Bless Adonai , O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: He forgives all your iniquity. He heals all your diseases.
Psalms 103:2‭-‬3 TLV

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:9‭-‬10 NIV

7. Our spirits are refreshed and renewed.
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Psalms 16:11 NKJV

8. Paves the way for miracles to happen
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
Psalms 63:3‭-‬4 NKJV

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone's chains were loosed. And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, "Do yourself no harm, for we are all here." Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
Acts 16:25‭-‬30 NKJV

• Praise breaks chains

• You don't see the opportunity if you aren't praising.

It's Just a Matter of Time

Pastor Joel at Lakewood Church

We know God's promises but we can't see anything changing. We then get discouraged but

Then Jesus said to the tree, "May no one ever eat your fruit again!" And the disciples heard him say it.
Mark 11:14 NLT

When Jesus spoke, nothing changed on the outside.

The next morning as they passed by the fig tree he had cursed, the disciples noticed it had withered from the roots up.
Mark 11:20 NLT

The moment you pray, God cuts off the source! The roots have been cut off.

"All the horns of the wicked I will also cut off, But  the horns of the righteous shall be exalted."
Psalms 75:10 NKJV

When Jesus spoke to the tree there was no evidence that anything has changed.

You can't be moved by what you don't see, be moved by what you know.

Stay in faith until what you're believing for manifests.

Clipping a Rose from it's bush

It may bloom and blossom but it's still dead.

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:9 NKJV

Roses should last up to one week and possibly longer after being cut. The truth is that your fresh cut roses aren't going to last forever...just like your difficulties.

The enemy makes the most noise on their way out.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
I Peter 5:8 NKJV

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Mark 11:24 NKJV

You have to be healed in your spirit before you are healed in your body. It happens right when you pray!

The Osteens prayed for Mama Dodie's healing on December 11, 1981 and she believed she received that healing right then while always thanking God for it.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 NKJV

In the unseen realm things have already changed.

Pastor John prayed for 2 cows but instead bought the meat for the conference.

The Power of an Empty Net

Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened. Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples. Simon Peter said, "I'm going fishing (to go for some goal)." "We'll come, too," they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. At dawn (theyd been fishing all night) Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn't see who he was. He called out, "Fellows, have you caught any fish?" "No," they replied. Then he said (do it God's way), "Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you'll get some!" So they did, and they couldn't haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, "It's the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. "Bring some of the fish you've just caught," Jesus said. So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn't torn. "Now come and have some breakfast!" Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon son of John, do you love me more than these? " "Yes, Lord," Peter replied, "you know I love you." "Then feed my lambs," Jesus told him. Jesus repeated the question: "Simon son of John, do you love me?" "Yes, Lord," Peter said, "you know I love you." "Then take care of my sheep," Jesus said. A third time he asked him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, "Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you." Jesus said, "Then feed my sheep. "I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don't want to go."  Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him, "Follow me."
John 21:1‭-‬19 NLT

• Apart from me you can do nothing (not even catch fish)

Sometimes the worse thing that could happen is easy success.

• God knows sometimes we need to go through a "long night" before the full net

• If they would have filled the net before the long night (EARLY) then they would have missed Jesus.

Our impulse is to go our own way and do things without God.

How much would we pray?

• The empty net teaches us our dependence on God.

• Both the empty net and the abundant net were gifts from Jesus.

It takes 20 years to make an overnight success.
Eddie Cantor

What if you get the full net but lose focus of the purpose of getting the fish...the bigger picture.

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. People curse those who hoard their grain, but they bless the one who sells in time of need. If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you! Trust in your money and down you go! But the godly flourish like leaves in spring. Those who bring trouble on their families inherit the wind. The fool will be a servant to the wise. The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.
Proverbs 11:25‭-‬30 NLT

I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."
Genesis 12:2‭-‬3 NKJV

When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish." "Master," Simon replied, "we worked hard all last night and didn't catch a thing. But if you say so, I'll let the nets down again." And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear! A shout for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking. When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, "Oh, Lord, please leave me—I'm such a sinful man." For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, "Don't be afraid! From now on you'll be fishing for people!"
Luke 5:4‭-‬10 NLT

• The empty net makes us willing to do it God's way.

Once you're humbled you're more willing to do things God's way because whatever you have been doing isn't working and you're "hungry"

This entire fishing miracle was leading to breakfast; an opportunity to Fellowship with Jesus.

Take care of your body, it's the only place you have to live.

Positioned for Increase

We've seen God's favor in the past but it seems like that favor is being taken away: a close friend leaves your life, a business deal ends, etc....

Sometimes God removes what is working to stretch your fait

Manna was temporary provision but they got used to it and counted on it.

And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
Joshua 5:12 KJV

They would have lived off of manna for their entire lives even though other things were available.

You're close to your promise land when the Manna dries up.

The friend who left may have been limiting you.

Tony Dungy

Was pushed pushed out of his Tampa Bay coaching job but then was offered a position with the Colts and won the superbowl

Would have missed the abundance that belonged to them if God kept providing manna.

If something stops then it wasn't supposed to be permanen. Don't have a Manna mentality.

The closer the Israelites got to the promised land, the less God helped...they had to grow up. They got new responsibilities.

The longer we hold on, the more miserable we'll be.

Elijah

And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,  Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.  And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.  So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord : for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.  And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.  And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.  And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,  Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
1 Kings 17:2‭-‬9 KJV

Put Your Trust in Redemption

Lisa Comes

Timothy, please come as soon as you can. Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus has gone to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Bring Mark with you when you come, for he will be helpful to me in my ministry. I sent Tychicus to Ephesus. When you come, be sure to bring the coat I left with Carpus at Troas. Also bring my books, and especially my papers. Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm, but the Lord will judge him for what he has done. Be careful of him, for he fought against everything we said. The first time I was brought before the judge, no one came with me. Everyone abandoned me. May it not be counted against them. But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength so that I might preach the Good News in its entirety for all the Gentiles to hear. And he rescued me from certain death.  Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.
2 Timothy 4:9‭-‬18 NLT

Joseph Prince @ Lakewood Church

God will make a clear difference between his people and those against.

"Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance. "Look and see, for everyone is coming home! Your sons are coming from distant lands; your little daughters will be carried home. Your eyes will shine, and your heart will thrill with joy, for merchants from around the world will come to you. They will bring you the wealth of many lands.
Isaiah 60:1‭-‬5 NLT

Then the Lord said to Moses, "Lift your hand toward heaven, and the land of Egypt will be covered with a darkness so thick you can feel it." So Moses lifted his hand to the sky, and a deep darkness covered the entire land of Egypt for three days. During all that time the people could not see each other, and no one moved. But there was light as usual where the people of Israel lived.
Exodus 10:21‭-‬23 NLT

America has been the #1 nation to spread the gospel.

And the Lord replied, "If I find fifty righteous people in Sodom, I will spare the entire city for their sake."
Genesis 18:26 NLT

Our hopes cannot be in fallen creation, it must be in redemption. Don't put your trust in what you eat and exercise...put your trust in God.

On the first day of the week, we gathered with the local believers to share in the Lord's Supper. Paul was preaching to them, and since he was leaving the next day, he kept talking until midnight.
Acts of the Apostles 20:7 NLT

Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.
Acts 20:7 NKJV

For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
I Corinthians 11:30 NKJV

There's divine sentence. The blood is a sign that your house will not suffer under the divine sentence. It's not your good works or your good name or anything you could do.

'For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord . Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. 'So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses. For whoever eats leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.
Exodus 12:12‭-‬15 NKJV

The children of Israel were out in the wilderness with no doctors or medical care. He also brought them out with silver and gold, And there  was none feeble among His tribes.
Psalms 105:37 NKJV

Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.
Mark 11:24 NKJV

God has made provision ALREADY! We need to eat everything.

Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fireits head with its legs and its entrails.
Exodus 12:8‭-‬9 NKJV

For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
I Corinthians 11:29‭-‬30 NKJV

Animals were killed humanely but Jesus was not. Because :

But He was  wounded for our transgressions, He  was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 NKJV

"No one outside a priest's family may eat the sacred offerings. Even guests and hired workers in a priest's home are not allowed to eat them.
Leviticus 22:10 NLT

A hired serving cannot partake because it is a gift of grace that you cannot earn.

The gift of righteousness

Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men;
Isaiah 52:14 NKJV

You're not saved JUST by following his teachings.

But it was the Lord 's good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord 's good plan will prosper in his hands.
Isaiah 53:10 NLT

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
Isaiah 53:10 KJV

And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.  And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the Lord's passover.
Exodus 12:10‭-‬11 KJV

Change Your Name

Don't believe the lies that people tell about you.

Born to lose tattoo....before you're stamped with a name you already accepted it in your mind.

Benjamin

According to the Hebrew Bible, Benjamin's name arose when Jacob deliberately changed the name "Benoni", the original name of Benjamin, since Benoni was an allusion to Rachel's dying just after she had given birth, as it means "son of my pain". He hadn't done anything wrong but sometimes the people who are supposed to speak life into you take their pain out on you.

What God names you overrides what people name you.

Don't let what people can't see in you talk you out of your promises.

Counselor told a guy he didn't have potential and should apply to a basic job so he did. That company closed so he applied for a similar job but the new company required an IQ test. The IQ Test showed that he was a genius.

You aren't what people call you,  you're what you answer to.

Everything Serves His Plan

Pastor Joel @ Lakewood Church

It's easy to live frustrated fighting against things that don't go right.

Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.
Psalms 119:91 NLT

Delays, betrayals, closed doors, denials, and the other seemingly negative outcomes are all serving his plan.

The person who walked away and the closed door.

When someone serves you, they are doing you a favor.

You can't reach your destiny without opposition. God won't allow anything unless it serves his plan.

Judas was a pawn in the hand of God. Without Judas' betrayal we wouldn't have salvation. You may not like the disappointment

God is using people like sandpaper to rub off our rough edges.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord , And He delights in his way.
Psalms 37:23 NKJV

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28 NKJV

All things aren't good but they work toward your good.

Sometimes things don't make sense, God doesn't take us A, B, C... he'll take is A, L, M, B...It may seem like you're going backwards even.

Joseph was shown a prophecy of his accomplishments in a dream. He was already his dad's favorite son so the drean made them even more jealous. His brothers threw him in a pit, sold him into slavery where he was falsely accused then convicted of sexual harrassment, he went to prison where he helped the other prisoners who subsequently forgot about him, but he was finally freed and saw his dreams realized.

Judas kiss, people throwing you in the pit, and the like are moving you into your destiny.

Pastor Joel hired a professional to do his taxes. The professional messed up so he ended up hiring a lawyer who became his good friend. That lawyer helped negotiate a contract for the purchase of a television station which was sold for a significant profit and those funds were used to renovate the Compaq Center. It all started with an unfair tax problem.

A man was stranded on an island and after praying to God for help, his hut caught on fire. He was upset then he saw a boat coming toward him it was the coastguard. The man asked how they found him and they said that they saw smoke from his fire.

Sometimes what we think is a disappointment is propelling us forward.

If your hut is on fire, then take a different perspective and know that it's working for your favor...helping you to get into a better

Nick Nilson was a star football player headed toward higher levels in that avenue until he tore his ACL. Sitting on the sidelines he realized his purpose.

Obstacles are there to get us prepared.

Now these are  the nations which the Lord left, that He might test Israel by them, that  is, all who had not known any of the wars in Canaan ( this  was only so that the generations of the children of Israel might be taught to know war, at least those who had not formerly known it),
Judges 3:1‭-‬2 NKJV

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
II Corinthians 12:7‭-‬9 NKJV

My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.
Psalms 119:71 NLT

The Fight for Your Future

We have setbacks that weren't our fault but there's something in you the enemy is trying to hold back. You're the enemy's target because you're destined to take new ground

David was pretty plain on the surface. When Samuel came to annoint one of Jesse's son's as the new king, his dad didn't even bring him in from the shepherd's field. When he went to take his brother's lunch they belittled him. Even though he didn't seem intimidating many storms came between him and his purpose.

A storm came between Jesus and the man with the unclean spirit.

On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side."  Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Mark 4:35‭, ‬39 NKJV

Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones. And he cried out with a loud voice and said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God that You do not torment me." For He said to him, "Come out of the man, unclean spirit!"  Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who  had  been  demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid.
Mark 5:1‭-‬5‭, ‬7‭-‬8‭, ‬15 NKJV

I will exalt you, Lord , for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me.
Psalms 30:1 NLT

God's purpose is stronger than the enemy's plan.

Pastor John faced many obstacles. A fire, being fired because his message of hope didn't fit in, etc..

For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there  are many adversaries.
I Corinthians 16:9 NKJV

Moses
When God is fighting your battles things that don't make sense willl happen.

The story of Moses starts in Exodus 2:1-10. By the end of Exodus 1, the pharaoh of Egypt (perhaps Ramses II) had decreed that all the Hebrew boy babies were to be drowned at birth. But when Yocheved, Moses' mother, give birth she decides to hide her son. After a few months, the baby is too big for her to hide safely, so she decides to place him in a caulked wicker basket in a strategic spot in the reeds that grew along the sides of the Nile River (often referred to as bulrushes), with the hope that he will be found and adopted.

To ensure the baby's safety, Moses's sister Miriam watches from a hiding place nearby.

The baby's crying alerts one of the pharaoh's daughters who takes the baby. Moses' sister Miriam watches in hiding but comes out when it is clear the princess is planning to keep the child. She asks the princess if she would like a Hebrew midwife. The princess agrees and so Miriam arranges to have the real mother get paid to nurse her own child who now lives among the Egyptian royalty.

Nicky Cruz

Cruz was born in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico where he was raised by his parents.[1] His parents practiced brujeria and were followers of spiritism("espiritismo"). They mentally abused him; his own mother would call him "Son of Satan". The neighborhood in which he lived was one of the worst in Puerto Rico and Cruz was always getting into trouble. According to his book Run Baby Run, his parents sent him to live with his brother in New York City when he was 15, and Cruz soon ran away and started living on the streets of the city. He became a member of the Mau Maus street gang, and about six months later Cruz was selected Warlord of the gang. He quickly rose to become their president.[2][3]

Shortly after Cruz became the gang leader, David Wilkerson was preaching in the neighborhood when Cruz encountered him. The preacher told Cruz that "Jesus loved him and would never stop loving him". Cruz responded by slapping Wilkerson and threatening to kill him. Wilkerson attempted again later to convert Cruz, and received the same response.[2][3]

Later, Wilkerson organised an evangelistic meeting in the neighborhood with the intent of converting the Mau Maus. When Cruz heard about it, he headed with some of the members of his gang for the boxing arena where the meeting was being held, on a bus sent specially by Wilkerson. According to Cruz, when he arrived at the arena, he "felt guilty about the things that he had done" and began to pray. After preaching, Wilkerson asked the Mau Maus to take up a collection. Cruz volunteered and led a group of the gang through the crowd, insisting on people giving money. Going backstage, he saw an exit, but convinced the group to give the money to Wilkerson on stage. Later, Wilkerson gave an altar call, and a large number of gang members responded. Wilkerson prayed with Cruz, and Cruz asked God to forgive him.[2][3]

Afterward, Cruz and some of the gang members who were converted went to the police and turned in all of their bricks, handguns and knives, shocking the police officers in the station. They stated that if they had seen the group approaching, they probably would have shot them down. Cruz began to study the Bibleand went to Bible college. He became a preacher and returned to his old neighborhood, where he preached and converted more of the Mau Maus to Christianity, including the gang's new leader, Israel Narvaez.[2][3]

Keep moving forward and don't get discouraged.

And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord , which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." And the Lord said to Moses, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Exodus 14:13‭-‬16 NKJV

Don't Settle For Less

Pastor Joel @ Lakewood Church

It's easy to water down what God pronises us when things are taking longer than you thought. "Good enough" is not what God promises you.  The enemy can't take away what God promises but he can convince you to settle.

Pull up your stakes and pack up your belongings because mediocrity is not your home. You shouldn't settle for less than what God promises.

Don't move the goal post to fit your circumstances. Know that God wouldn't have promised it if it Werent possible.

In Genesis 15 God promised Abraham and Sarah a baby even though they were passed the biological clock. Sarah watered down the promise by convincing Abraham to have a baby with her servant. That's what we do sometimes...instead of rising to God's thinking we adjust the plan to fit our limited belief.

You don't have to take up for God or try to help God not look bad...He doesn't need that type of help.

Don't let what you don't have talk you out of what God does have.

Shadrach, Meshach, abd Abednego. You may feel like your hands are tied but God's hands aren't tied. God isn't limited by what's limiting us. He's the 4th man in the fire.

So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames. But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, "Didn't we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?" "Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did," they replied. "Look!" Nebuchadnezzar shouted. "I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And the fourth looks like a god !"
Daniel 3:23‭-‬25 NLT

Ishmael represents a spirit of Good enough. God isn't going to give you a substitute blessing, the real thing is coming.

And I will bless her and give you a son from her! Yes, I will bless her richly, and she will become the mother of many nations. Kings of nations will be among her descendants." Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. "How could I become a father at the age of 100?" he thought. "And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?" So Abraham said to God, "May Ishmael live under your special blessing!"
Genesis 17:16‭-‬18 NLT

Just because you've settled doesn't mean God has.

And Sarah declared, "God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me. Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse a baby? Yet I have given Abraham a son in his old age!"
Genesis 21:6‭-‬7 NLT

"Who would have ever thought?!" blessings are headed your way.

And may the Lord , the God of your ancestors, multiply you a thousand times more and bless you as he promised!
Deuteronomy 1:11 NLT

But Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth, while his father, Terah, was still living.
Genesis 11:28 NLT

You have to say "yes I'm hurt but I'm not settling here"

One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram's wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran's child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran.
Genesis 11:31‭-‬32 NLT

Terah was the first one called to go to the promised land but he settled.

The enemy would love for us to settle.

Many of us are next door to our promised land.

"Send out men to explore the land of Canaan, the land I am giving to the Israelites. Send one leader from each of the twelve ancestral tribes." But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. "Let's go at once to take the land," he said. "We can certainly conquer it!" But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. "We can't go up against them! They are stronger than we are!" So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: "The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that's what they thought, too!"
Numbers 13:2‭, ‬30‭-‬33 NLT

"Good enough" is not good enough!

Disconnect From Discord

Pastor Joel at Lakewood Church

We all have people in our life who are professional troublemakers. If you hang around them long enough then you'll be upset. These people don't have your best interests in mind.

And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people's faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.
Romans 16:17 NLT

Before you get riled up consider the source. Your time is too valuable to let people poison your spirit. Some people aren't healthy enough to give you advice.

Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).
PSALMS 1:1 AMP

(How well God must like you— you don't hang out at Sin Saloon, you don't slink along Dead-End Road, you don't go to Smart-Mouth College.
Psalm 1:1 MSG)

Become wise by walking with the wise; hang out with fools and watch your life fall to pieces.
Proverbs 13:20 MSG

Don't be a participator with sowers of discord.

EVEN IF IT'S TRUE, CONSIDER THE PURPOSE IT WILL SERVE. Love covers a fault. Love covers a weakness.

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8 NLT

Their perverted hearts plot evil, and they constantly stir up trouble. But they will be destroyed suddenly, broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing.
Proverbs 6:14‭-‬15 NLT

DON'T COMPARE YOUR LIFE TO ANYONE ELSE'S

There will always be someone ahead of you.  Don't let people talk you into being sour.

Joel egged his friend on to disrespect the referee of the basketball game. The coach eventually kicked his friend out of the game and Joel got to play. That's what happens when we let people sow discord into our hearts. They continue to enjoy the game while we're sitting in the locker room.

One day Korah son of Izhar, a descendant of Kohath son of Levi, conspired with Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, from the tribe of Reuben. They incited a rebellion against Moses, along with 250 other leaders of the community, all prominent members of the assembly. They united against Moses and Aaron and said, "You have gone too far! The whole community of Israel has been set apart by the Lord , and he is with all of us. What right do you have to act as though you are greater than the rest of the Lord 's people?"
Numbers 16:1‭-‬3 NLT

If you are unhappy, then the best thing to do is to go to the people in charge and Express  your concerns not to sow discord trying to get others on your side.

A sower of discord isn't happy until others are poisoned.

When Moses heard what they were saying, he fell face down on the ground. Then he said to Korah and his followers, "Tomorrow morning the Lord will show us who belongs to him and who is holy. The Lord will allow only those whom he selects to enter his own presence. Meanwhile, Korah had stirred up the entire community against Moses and Aaron, and they all gathered at the Tabernacle entrance. Then the glorious presence of the Lord appeared to the whole community,
Numbers 16:4‭-‬5‭, ‬19 NLT

God doesn't play around when it comes to discord.

And Moses said, "This is how you will know that the Lord has sent me to do all these things that I have done—for I have not done them on my own. He had hardly finished speaking the words when the ground suddenly split open beneath them. The earth opened its mouth and swallowed the men, along with their households and all their followers who were standing with them, and everything they owned. All the people around them fled when they heard their screams. "The earth will swallow us, too!" they cried. Then fire blazed forth from the Lord and burned up the 250 men who were offering incense.
Numbers 16:28‭, ‬31‭-‬32‭, ‬34‭-‬35 NLT

When you become a troublemaker you step out of God's protection.

Instead of exposing something, we cover it up.

Saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm."
Psalms 105:15 NKJV

After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard. One day he drank some wine he had made, and he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw that his father was naked and went outside and told his brothers. Then Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, and backed into the tent to cover their father. As they did this, they looked the other way so they would not see him naked. When Noah woke up from his stupor, he learned what Ham, his youngest son, had done. Then he cursed Canaan, the son of Ham: "May Canaan be cursed! May he be the lowest of servants to his relatives." Then Noah said, "May the Lord , the God of Shem, be blessed, and may Canaan be his servant! May God expand the territory of Japheth! May Japheth share the prosperity of Shem, and may Canaan be his servant."
Genesis 9:20‭-‬27 NLT

You can't stop people from sowing discord but you can stop ot from getting in you.

My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it. Interlude
Psalms 57:6 NLT

Don't fight battles that don't matter.

There happened to be a troublemaker there named Sheba son of Bicri, a man from the tribe of Benjamin. Sheba blew a ram's horn and began to chant: "Down with the dynasty of David! We have no interest in the son of Jesse. Come on, you men of Israel, back to your homes!" So all the men of Israel deserted David and followed Sheba son of Bicri. But the men of Judah stayed with their king and escorted him from the Jordan River to Jerusalem. Then the king told Amasa, "Mobilize the army of Judah within three days, and report back at that time." And Joab replied, "Believe me, I don't want to devour or destroy your town! That's not my purpose. All I want is a man named Sheba son of Bicri from the hill country of Ephraim, who has revolted against King David. If you hand over this one man to me, I will leave the town in peace." "All right," the woman replied, "we will throw his head over the wall to you." Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off Sheba's head and threw it out to Joab. So he blew the ram's horn and called his troops back from the attack. They all returned to their homes, and Joab returned to the king at Jerusalem.
